A Message From Our Interim Pastor

January 30: "Be the Disciple Paul Would Send"

Paul’s hope in his Master and Lord Jesus, is that he will be able to send Timothy right away to the Philippians so that he can hear and be encouraged by the good news about how well the church in Philippi is doing.

There is a little tension in our story here as Paul indicates that he doesn’t seem to be able to come up with any other names of people that he can send; it’s like Timothy is the only one Paul has on the sign-up sheet for people who can be sent to Philippi. Well why?

The reason appears to be that Paul knows that Timothy is the only disciple who is like-minded enough, and in unity to the cause of Christ; and for that matter Paul feels only Timothy will have the Philippians’ best interest at heart, as he truly cares about their welfare.

The problem seems to be that the others that Paul might have wanted to send, appear to still be working on personal issues as Paul says everyone else is only looking out for themselves and don’t really care about the things that would interest and serve Jesus. Ouch! “Don’t let the Romans intercept your letter Paul.”

Paul did not have anyone that he felt qualified to send to Philippi; it’s because no one in Rome cared enough about others. The question for us to consider then: do I care enough about others that Paul could have sent me?
